The Bears’ troubled defensive tackle Tank Johnson is scheduled to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell next Wednesday. ESPN.com and the Chicago Tribune reporting that Johnson is likely to be the next in what is fast becoming a long line of misbehaving football stars to feel the Commish’s wrath.
Word is that Goodell make take it somewhat easier on Tank Johnson due to the fact that Johnson has served time in jail. I think this is a solid approach, but only if Johnson seems truly reticent.
While I am a fan of Goodell’s no nonsense disciplinary style, and I believe that it will mean only good things for the NFL, the fact remains that in a league where players deny wrongdoing in the face of insurmountable evidence, Johnson has owned his actions and actually did time in the clink. And shouldn’t that count for something?
