In their first preseason game of the year, the Chicago Bears defeated the Houston Texans 20-19. The Bears tried out a few of their new offensive weapons early in the game before predictably pulling their first stringers after only a few plays. The Texans, despite the win, cannot be extremely happy with their performance, as their first string offense did not look much improved from last season at all.
This was a battle fought by the third and fourth-stringers, mostly. The innumerable men who roam the sidelines during the first quarter of the preseason games, then come in and beat the living daylights out of one another, battling for the few remaining roster spots on the depth chart. One very bright spot for the Bears was Rex Grossman, who went 8 of 10 for 50 yards through the air. He connected with a few of the new Bears offensive weapons at receiver, and looked very sharp.
