Bears Opening Game Preview

ESPN.com has released a free Insider preview of the Bears/Chargers game.  ESPN.com goes so far as to promote the game as a possible Super Bowl preview.  While both of these teams have some serious issues to address on their way to the playoffs this season - the Bears at QB and RB and the Chargers at WR - ESPN.com could very well be correct.  The Bears seem to have very little in the way of actual competition in the NFC, and the Chargers need only one legitimate deep threat to really open up their offense and start shredding teams for 35 points a weekend.  This will certainly be one of the best battles going in week one.

The Bears will look to establish their new running attack aggressively and early in the game.  They need to know that Cedric Benson can carry the load offensively, as there have been questions about his mental toughness and leadership abilities in the past.  The Bears need Benson to really step up become a consistent presence on offense, otherwise they’re going to have to rely on Rex Grossman to win ball games, and nobody wants that.  On defense, the Bears will most likely stack the box in an effort to contain LT and force Philip Rivers to prove he can beat them through the air.
