Bears Put Their Fate in Rex’s Hands

The going story all over Chicago right now has to do with the fact that the Chicago Bears fully trust Rex Grossman with their 2007 season.  Literally nearly every single Chicago print news publication is running some version of this type of story today, but I decided to go with the story out of the Daily Southtown.  Basically, the running narrative in Chicago right  now is one of bemused skepticism on the part of the media, due to the seemingly blind optimism present in the Chicago locker room as it pertains to Grossman.  The Bears seem to be the only people in the world who are sold on Rex’s ability to lead the Bears to the Super Bowl.

The Bears cite lots of reasons why they believe in Grossman, from the way he handles adversity to all his hard work spent on improving his game.  However, of all the things they like about Rex, none of them seems to cite his decision-making abilities under pressure or his ability to keep turnovers to a minimum.  All in all, the article makes the Bears as a team sound like a team that might be slightly in denial.  No one expects them to throw Rex under the bus before he even throws a pass in the 2007 regular season, but if he doesn’t get off to a monster start this year, don’t be surprised if the Bears change their tune quickly.
