Bears Lose Game, Defensive Leaders

In a shocking and startling turn of events for Bears fans everywhere, The Chicago Bears not only lost their game to the Chargers 3-14, but the Bears also lost two of their most important starting defensive players to injury as well. Starting safety Mike Brown and defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek both suffered injuries classified as “knee sprains” at the moment.  However, neither injury looked like just a sprain.  Mike Brown’s season could conceivably be over and Dvoracek may also miss considerable time rehabbing.

This is a huge blow to the Chicago defense.  Mike Brown is an emotional anchor and leader on the field and off, and Dvoracek’s injury leaves the Bears with one less man in their already thin corps of defensive tackles.  The Bears relied on their defense to keep them in games last year, not just be keeping the other team from scoring, but by scoring points themselves.  With the Bears offense putting up anemic numbers - and only three points - in the opening game, the Bears will have to scramble to figure out what they will do with a depleted defense.
