Bears Glad They Dropped Tank

There’s an interesting article being run right now in the Chicago Sun-Times about the fact that Tank Johnson’s off-field issues actually freed up the Bears to acquire Darwin Walker, who will see significant playing time with the injury to Dustin Dvoracek on the defensive front line.  Had the Bears not cut the troubled Johnson, they would have had him still on the roster, yet unable to play, with slim pickings to replaced the injured Dvoracek.

While no one ever wants to take joy in someone else losing their job, Chicago fans may feel some small relief today in knowing that whether it seemed that way at the time or not, the Bears made the right decision in cutting Johnson in the offseason.  The Bears may be set back a bit by these injuries, but if Johnson was still on the roster, the injury to Dvoracek could have potentially wreaked havoc on the Bears’ 2007 record and playoff hopes.
