Former Bears D-Coordinator Takes Shot at Grossman

Rex Grossman just can’t catch a break.  It seems like every time Grossman turns around, someone else is taking a shot at him, either about his abilities on the field or otherwise.  Particularly today we’re focusing on new Chargers linebackers coach and former Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.  Rivera referred to Rex Grossman as a “mental midget” among other things.  He told his linebackers that they could get inside Grossman’s head if they talked smack at him all day long.  The Bears, obviously, had their own things to say about Rivera, defending Grossman and tossing Rivera under the bus.

I, for one, don’t understand the impetus behind talking smack on an already beaten opponent.  The Chargers seem to have quite a bit to say for a team that was bounced from the first round of the playoffs last year.  They should be concentrating on avenging that playoff loss and proving that they are indeed the team to beat in the AFC, not taking potshots at the Chicago Bears.  The Bears, for their part, seem almost amused that the Chargers are still talking about them.  They remain adamant that Rivera never really knew Grossman in the first place, and that this type of comment is exactly the reason he’s not in Chicago anymore.
