The Bible of NFL supremacy, the NFL Power Rankings on ESPN.com, have been released this week. The Bears, for all their problems, have seen their stock plummet no less than seven spots this week, from six to 13. This fall from the top 10 can of course be attributed to the fact that the Bears score offensive touchdowns almost as rarely as the Notre Dame football team. Add to that the Bears’ defensive players showing an amazing dedication to getting injured in almost every way imaginable, and you have a true recipe for disaster in the Windy City right now.
The Bears are hoping that their amazing slide stops with Brian Griese at the helm. To be honest, I think they might be right. The fact of the matter is the Bears locker room was divided, no matter what kind of sound bytes the players were feeding the media. Players don’t like it when one guy keeps costing them football games, especially when that team is coming off a Super Bowl season. Last year they won despite Grossman’s insane ineptitude. This year is not last year. If the Bears have any hope of climbing back into the top 10 in the Power Rankings, or of just making the playoffs, they are going to need to get it together fast.
