Chicago Climbs in Power Rankings

ESPN.com has released their latest round of Power Rankings, and the Chicago Bears made one of the biggest jumps of the week, all the way from 20 to 15.  Apparently a huge win over the undefeated leader of your division carries a lot of weight with the people who make up the Power Rankings.  The Bears looked really good on Sunday night, with the defense forcing turnovers and Brian Griese maintaining just enough offensive production while keeping mistakes to a minimum.  The running game even looked decent, with rookie Adrian Peterson continuing to impress, even if Cedric Benson continues to not impress in the slightest.

This early in the season, so many things can happen, so it’s really impossible to predict.  But it would seem after five weeks that the Seahawks are in control of their own destiny in the west, the Bucs and Panthers will battle it out for the South, the Giants and Redskins will go after one another in the East, and the Bears and Packers will be competing in the North.  I think the Bucs will win the South be default after Carolina tanks with David Carr helming the team.  The Redskins should be able to outlast the Giants with better D and better coaching than New York.  The Bears might catch the Packers in the North, but not unless Green Bay collapses pretty solidly.  However, I still believe that even if they don’t win the North, the Bears are clear-cut favorites in the Wild Card race right now.  The season is not lost yet, Bears fans - not by a long shot.
