Parcells Wouldn’t Kick to Hester

In something new I’m going to try where I link you to a video rather than a news story, here is Bill Parcells’ take on kicking to Hester. Parcell’s basically says that he wouldn’t kick to Hester, especially not on punts, and he’s right. At this point, even just going out of bounds on kickoffs might be a better deal than kicking to Hester. Sure, you give the Bears the ball at the 35-yard line, but at least you’re not worrying about Hester breaking one for 6 points. Punting to the man is just absolutely insane. Anyone who punts to Hester is obviously not watching game tape. He single-handedly kept the Bears in that game with Minnesota last week.

What may be really starting to worry opposing teams is the fact that the Bears found a way to integrate Hester into the offense at the end of the game last week. Sure, the play was basically “just run Hester and launch the deep bomb to him,” but it worked for a touchdown and tied that game. If the Bears hadn’t decided to quit early, it might have led to a win. Which brings up the most interesting point - can the Bears actually manage to continue to lose while at the same time fielding the fastest, most dynamic player in the NFL from week to week? Is this even possible? Not since Barry Sanders has such great talent been so horribly wasted.
