Bears Lose Brown for Season

According to this report out of Herald News, Gene Chamberlain writes that the Chicago Bears have now lost starting left guard Ruben Brown for the rest of the season.  Brown has been playing through the pain of a shoulder injury for much of the season, only practicing once a week, but the injury has now become too severe.  Brown has been told by doctors that he must undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, taking the nine-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman out of the mix for the second half of the year.  He will be replaced by Terrance Metcalf, a six-year veteran who has logged 20 starts in his career.

What’s next for the Bears?  Aside from some horrific catastrophe befalling the entire team, could things honestly get any worse?  Now Griese - who hasn’t been exactly lighting people up lately - will have to worry that his nine-time Pro Bowl left guard won’t be guarding his blind side?   That’s going to make things better for the Bears.  The Bears certainly have the deck stacked against them, but it’s times like this when you truly find out what a team is made of.  Will the Bears roll over and die? Or will they band together and fight and claw their way into the playoffs?  Only time will tell.
