The Chicago Bears, fresh off a win that has them only one game back of .500 and still hoping for a playoff spot, are now faced with yet another conundrum. The Bears have yet to name a starting quarterback for next week’s game versus the Carolina Panthers. Regular starter Brian Griese has yet to be medically cleared to play on Sunday, and last year’s starting QB, Rex Grossman, played very well in relief of the injured Griese last week. Coach Lovie Smith has been his usual tight-lipped self about the situation, only saying that no decision will be made until all of Griese’s tests have been concluded.
I don’t believe Grossman will get the start is Griese is cleared to play. Though Griese hasn’t been a much better option as of late, we must remember how truly atrocious Rex Grossman was at the beginning of this season. Grossman was benched three games after playing in the Super Bowl. That is not easy to do, people. That takes a true lack of skill and effort. While Griese has been barely average, don’t just start choosing what you believe to be the lesser of two evils. Grossman may have won you a game, but he’s still the same interception-throwing monster he always was. You’ve only forgotten with time.
