Bears Rise in Power Rankings

ESPN.com has released their weekly Power Rankings, and the Chicago Bears rose three spots to number 21 on the list after their dramatic victory last Sunday on the strength of Rex Grossman’s heroics (yes, you just read that correctly).  Now of course, the focus will shift to Mr. Grossman, as there are some insane people in Chicago who believe the Turnoversaurus can save their season.  I implored the people of Chicago to take some time to think rationally about this, but so far it seems that the talk still rages.  Griese has yet to be cleared to play, thus muddying the waters even more.

What happens if Griese can’t play?  What happens if Grossman performs admirably in his absence? Where does that leave the Bears?  Furthermore, even if Grossman comes in and throws for 400 yards and six touchdowns, can he really be the savior of a team with half their defense injured and no running game?  Does it even really matter which QB the Bears field at this point?  These are questions no one seems to be asking, and I’m not sure why.  At the end of the day, neither of the quarterback options you have are particularly good, and without a run game, you’re going to have trouble getting anything going anyway.  You do, however, still have a chance.  And if Grossman can find the Good Rex for the second half of this season, you might well have a magical playoff run left in the tank.
