Peterson Plays Well in Bears Loss

The Southtown Star is running a great story on Adrian Peterson’s big day for the Bears last Sunday.  Peterson had nearly 150 yards both receiving and catching in his first start in place of Cedric Benson, who recently suffered a season-ending injury.  Peterson played extremely well for the Bears, provided the spark they needed from their running back, both in running the ball and providing a reliable check-down option for Rex Grossman.  However, the performance was all for naught as the Bears fell in the final minutes to the New York Giants, causing their playoff hopes to be sliced extremely thin.

The play of Peterson definitely warrants the question - “Did the Bears make a mistake with Cedric Benson?”  Had the Bears won, I suppose people would be even more high on Peterson right now, but the fact remains that it wasn’t Peterson who allowed a shaky quarterback to lead a game-winning drive in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter on Sunday.  That falls directly on the defense.  At the end of the game, all the Bears needed was one stop, and they just couldn’t find a way to get it.  After all the issues the Bears have had on offense, it’s somewhat ironic that it may have been their defense that delivered the final nail in the coffin of the Bears’ postseason hopes.  But all is not lost yet.  This is, after all, the NFC.
