Bears Hold Pat in Power Rankings

ESPN.com has released their weekly Power Rankings, and this week the Bears haven’t moved a bit.  The Bears stood firm at number 16, still not quite out of playoff contention in the NFC Wild Card race.  While the Bears have not played consistent football this season, to say the very least.  However, even at 5-7, they find themselves in the hunt.  The Bears need to win out to even have any hope of making the playoffs, and even then they’ll need some of the 6-6 teams above them to stumble.  But of the 6-6 teams above them in the Rankings, in my opinion only the Vikings pose a significant threat to keep the Bears out of the playoffs.

Right now the Bears are competing with teams like the Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals, the aforementioned Vikings, and the New Orleans Saints for that final playoff spot.  The Saints are a bit banged up, and don’t seem to have the same mettle they showed in their deep playoff run last year.  The Lions look awful in this recent four game losing skid.  The Cardinals are the Cardinals, and I’m not ready to declare them a playoff team yet.  Truly, only the Vikings - on the strength of their defense and running game, ironically - pose a threat to keep the Bears out of the playoffs.  For now, the Bears must just focus on winning while they hope for the best.
