Bears Fall to Redskins

I always hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Bears lost last night to the Washington Redskins, effectively ending their chances of defending their NFC Championship.  The Bears had to endure the loss of their starting quarterback, as Rex Grossman left the game early with a knee injury after a particularly nasty-looking hit.  The Redskins didn’t fair much better, bidding farewell to their QB1 as well when Jason Campbell went down in an eerily similar hit that resulted in a knee injury as well.  The extents of the two quarterbacks’ injuries are as yet unknown.

This contest turned into a battle of the backups, and Jeff Collins simply outplayed Brian Griese.  If that sounds odd to you, you’re not alone.  Griese was starting football games in the NFL just this season.  Before last night, Collins hadn’t thrown a pass in an NFL regular season in three years.  He hadn’t thrown a touchdown pass in five.  And yet, there he was, lighting up the Bears defense for two touchdowns and no INTs.  Both teams needed this win very badly, but the Redskins somehow wanted it more.  The Bears still have games left to play, and still need the support of their fans, but it’s going to be a long offseason this year wondering what exactly went wrong.
