In case you missed it, Rex Grossman left last Thursday’s game with the Redskins with a season-ending injury. While Grossman’s name is only the most recent to be added to the insanely long list of injured Bears this season, his injury and situation are certainly more interesting than most. Rex is in the final year of his contract with the Chicago Bears, and to say he hasn’t performed up to expectations would be putting it lightly. Even after leading the Bears to the Super Bowl last season, there are many Rex detractors who will argue that last year’s team made the Super Bowl in spite of Rex, not because of him.
Many Bears fans will find out next season what a world without Grossman is really like. The Bears will likely not bring Rex back into the fold, so now we must ask ourselves who the Bears will find to stand under center next season. Griese is unlikely to take on the role of starter, as he hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire in his stint in Chicago. The most popular name to throw around is Donovan McNabb, and I believe that may be a perfect fit for both the Bears and McNabb, but we’ll see. For now, football in Chicago is in a state of flux, and the season isn’t even through yet.
