Bears Plummet in Power Rankings

ESPN.com has released their weekly Power Rankings, and once again for the Bears, the news is not good at all.  The Chicago Bears had the biggest drop of the week, free-falling from 17 to 23 on the list.  After losing their most recent game and falling completely out of the playoff race, it should come as no surprise that the Bears will now occupy such a lowly spot in the Power Rankings.  They will be starting their third-string quarterback for the final three games of the season, if that tells you anything about the state of the team.  What is truly surprising is how the Bears fell so far so fast.

Of all the teams to occupy the lower third of the Power Rankings, perhaps the Bears are most shocking.  NFC Champions last year, it would appear the Bears simply thought they would get a trophy for just showing up this season.  This was not the case.  The Bears could not withstand injury, nor could they overcome the improvement of teams within their division.  The Bears never got anything remotely resembling an offense going this season, and their defense was banged up quite often.  One thing is sure about 2007 - the Bears are ready for it to just be over.
