Power Rankings Year in Review

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year’s Eve celebration, but now that the end of the year/beginning of the year festivities are over, it’s time to get back to work.  ESPN.com has posted their NFL Power Rankings for the final time this regular season, and it’s time to see where all your favorite teams ended up this year.  This season-ending retrospective features some new information, as well as personal notes from the good writers at ESPN.com who have been putting together these Power Rankings all year.  These final Power Rankings are always insightful, so let’s dive in.

The Bears final two wins of the season still couldn’t raise the Monsters of the Midway any higher than number 20 in the Power Rankings. This 7-9 version of the Bears succumbed to the curse of the Super Bowl loser pretty badly in 2007, fielding one of the worst defenses in team history and never really getting anything that remotely resembled and offense going.  Devin Hester had another monster season, but the Bears are going to need to figure out their woes on the offensive side of the ball before they can contend in the NFC again.
