Bears Talk about Future of Lance Briggs

With the season over, the Chicago Bears have begun the long process of entering the offseason, cleaning out their lockers and whatnot.  The Bears must now deal with the fact that they have likely played their last game with teammate Lance Briggs wearing a Chicago uniform.  Briggs was involved in a lengthy contract holdout that finally ended when the Bears agreed they would not slap the Franchise Player tag on Briggs again this season. So, without a franchise tag on Briggs, Lance will likely go to the highest bidder.  He will fetch a very high price on the open market.

The Bears have never had a reputation as big spenders.  In fact, their reputation is quite the opposite.  Briggs is not the only Bear expected to bolt from Chicago in the offseason.  Wide receiver Bernard Berrian is likely to command a high price in free agency as well, and the Bears are not likely to match his offers.  What does this mean for a Chicago Bears team that just succumbed to the curse of the Super Bowl loser?  Nothing good, unfortunately.  The Bears need big wholesale changes within their organization, and these losses are not changes for the better.
