Angelo not worried about the offseason

Jerry Angelo has begun to spin the team’s impending free agency departures.  With Lance Briggs, Bernard Berrian, Brendon Ayanbadejo, and Rex Grossman all likely leaving the Bears this year, there will be some mighty big shoes to fill there.  With the exception of Rex Grossman, who will find a job somewhere, but probably not as a a starter.  Those other three men will all leave some pretty gaping holes in the Bears’ defense, offense, and special teams respectively.  It will be interesting to see how the Bears react to these departures.

Angelo is trying to downplay the issue and say that the Bears have lots of young talent to step in and take the place of these players.  That’s all fine and dandy if you’re winning, but when you’re already getting your butt handed to you, regression is not the best option.  Lance Briggs should be retained.  Any team who would let Lance Briggs walk is foolish.  You wouldn’t see the Patriots, Chargers, Colts, or even the Cowboys let go of a player like that.  And that’s why all those teams are in the playoffs and Chicago is not.  Why go to the trouble of drafting great players if you’re going to let them play out their primes somewhere else?
