Redskins Interested in Bears’ Talent

According to a new post on Inside the Bears with Brad Biggs, the Washington Redskins are heavily interested in pursuing some of the players that the Bears will likely be allowing to walk very soon in the offseason.  The Chicago Bears have made no moves, nor have they spoken in public about having any desire to pursue and re-sign players the likes of Bernard Berrian and Lance Briggs.  Meanwhile, a team with no head coach and a horrible cap situation is planning on attempting to sign two of the best players the Bears have on their squad.  How has this happened?

The Chicago Bears are in a very solid position, in terms of the salary cap.  They have the room to make these deals happen.  I simply cannot understand why they would not be willing to spend money on Lance Briggs.  Bernard Berrian could perhaps be the type of player that you don’t pay to keep this season.  The lack of high-profile free agent receivers will drive his price upward, and you don’t want to overpay for someone you can replace.  But I’m not sure Lance Briggs is the kind of player the Chicago Bears can just replace.  I think they have to spend the money to re-sign Briggs.
