Chalk Talk on the Bears

With the Bears’ season now behind us, and the offseason not yet fully underway, it’s going to be slow going on the news front over here. However, we will always have Chalk Talk on particularly slow news days.  This particular day’s Chalk Talk caught my eye because the first question deals with departed linebackers coach Hardy Nickerson, who resigned this week, as has been reported even on this little blog.  Apparently according Larry Mayer, Nickerson left his post due to medical issues within his family.  If this is truly the case, then here’s hoping that everything works out and resolves itself in the best way possible for the Nickerson family.

Nickerson was by all accounts a very kind man and a real player’s coach.  The Bears linebackers had a very solid season under him, despite what some people out there might try to tell you.  Brian Urlacher, even with his arthritic back, had five sacks and five interceptions - a rare mark for a linebacker to hit.  He was a good coach and will be missed.  I’m sure everyone in Chicago will be sending their thoughts and prayers to the Nickerson household as Hardy attempts to help care for his mother and mother-in-law and give them all the treatment they need.
