Bears and Hester in Negotiations

According to Steve Rosembloom’s Rosenblog over at the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Bears are in contract talks with Devin Hester at the moment.  One can only imagine what those talks are like, as Hester could basically demand partial ownership of the Bears, and they might have to capitulate.  Considering that the Bears’ offense consists of two extremely crappy quarterbacks, one amazingly bad running back, and some receivers who were barely good enough to make the practice squad last season, Hester is literally one of the Bears best chances to score a touchdown next season.

Rosenbloom points out that the Bears have recently backed off their “Hester could be a #1 receiver comments,” likely because Hester’s agent starting huffing and puffing about #1 receiver money.  While it helps the Bears immensely that Brett Favre retired (there isn’t a truly great team in the NFC North now), the Bears must break out of their thinking of “only pay for defense and special teams.”  Last I checked, your offense still needs to score at least around 20 points a game if you want to have any hope of making the playoffs in the NFL.
