After a relatively slow news weekend for the Bears, we turn to Chalk Talk for our daily dose of Bears news. This is considered to be one of the deadest periods of the NFL season - the period between the end of the free agency rush and the draft - and other sports will be stealing the spotlight from the NFL. March Madness and even the ultra-competitive NBA playoff race have both taken some eyes away from the NFL this week. As such, we may be stuck with mostly posting Larry Mayer’s answers to any and all Bears’ fan queries.
This week’s batch of emails begins with a question about Devin Hester and whether or not he can be the Bears’ #1 receiver next year. The emailer even goes so far as to say that he believes Hester could be better than Steve Smith of the Panthers. While anything is possible, Hester still has a lot of work to do to become a top-tier receiver in the NFL like Smith. His routes were atrocious last year, and he looked like he only knew perhaps 25% of the Bears’ playbook. If Hester can improve, he could be a dominant offensive force in the league. But he is not there yet.
