With the NFL draft just around the corner, it is time to shift our attention to which players the Bears plan on selecting this year. This report claims the Bears are looking hard at Boston College offensive lineman Gosder Cherilus. Aside from having one of the funniest names in football, Cherilus is an exceptional offensive tackle who already has experience working with Josh Beekman, a player the Bears drafted in the fourth round last season. Cherilus would bolster the Bears’ depleted offensive line and add stability in the trenches.
While many fans are likely to pitch fits if the Bears go with anything but a QB in the first round, but I happen to think this could be a great pick for the Bears. It’s a really smart, safe bet that will likely pay off in the long run. The Bears need to revamp their offensive line, and badly. The Bears need a run game far more than they need a pass attack. What good is a quarterback without an offensive line to protect him, anyway? And look at it this way. If this doesn’t work, the Bears will have a high draft pick next year to take a QB.
