Bears Given Three Compensatory Picks

The Chicago Bears received three compensatory picks for the 2008 NFL draft, as expected.  The Bears now have four picks in the seventh round (the 15th, 36th, 40th and 41st picks in the round) for a total of 11 picks in all.  It would appear, if you look at the numbers, that the Bears are looking to start a youth movement in Chicago.  With 11 picks, even if four of them are in the seventh round, a team can do some serious damage in the draft - especially a team that has shown itself to be as draft-savvy as the Chicago Bears in the past few years.

However, there is not all good news in the land of the Bears.  For all their great scouting on defense and special teams, the Bears have been hit-or-miss on their offensive draft picks.  They have especially had trouble finding a quarterback, in case you hadn’t heard.  Also, the Bears’ defense isn’t getting any younger, and it will be interesting to see if the veteran defense and special teams can carry a youthful offense for an entire season.  One thing is certain though.  After losing so many players to free agency, these Bears will certainly have a very new look next season.
