According to this report out of the Post-Tribune, the Chicago Bears have re-signed Brandon McGowan, and they expect the player to compete for their starting strong safety position as they near the 2008 regular season. While many Bears fans have their eyes on the draft, this team continues to work hard to keep their squad mostly intact, especially on defense. They have allowed many of their best offensive skill players to leave in the past couple of years. However, they have taken great pains to retain their defensive unit and many special teams players.
One has to question the Bears so far this offseason. I don’t like to be the bearer of bad news (no pun intended) but the Bears deficiencies are not on defense and special teams. In fact, both of those parts of the team are absolutely impeccable. However, the Bears need to address some of their offensive concerns in the draft. Bears fans can’t see many more stories about their team re-signing a defensive player after they lost both their most talented wide receivers and have yet to address their QB concerns. How the team handles the draft this month will go a long way toward deciding their offseason grade.
