ESPN.com is running their annual draft coverage in the NFL, and as of right now, the Bears are on the clock, according to ESPN. According to the pundits over at the total sports network, the Bears should select offensive tackle Chris Williams with their 14th pick overall. Williams is a solid prospect out of Vanderbilt. He’s one of the very best tackles in the draft, and he fills a huge need for the Bears. The analysts at ESPN then go on to state that if the Bears can get Williams, they should then shift their focus to getting a solid running back later in the draft.
I must say - boring as it sounds - that I agree with the people at ESPN.com. The Bears must bolster their offensive line in the first round if they hope at all to be competitive next year. While I’m not totally ready to write off Cedric Benson, I do agree that the Bears needs to get themselves a very solid young running back to integrate into their system just in case Benson turns out to be a total bust. As for the QB situation, it remains to be seen how the Bears will deal with that. One thins is for sure about the Bears offseason so far - they certainly know how to keep their fans guessing.
