It’s hard to get the local sports media covering a notoriously cheap sports organization to side with the team on a contract dispute, but Brian Urlacher has managed to do just that. This piece from the Chicago Sun-Times gets down on Urlacher for coming back for more money when he already got paid handsomely the first time. This situation is not likely to just resolve itself quickly during the offseason. Neither side seems willing to budge from their positions, whether it be the Bears claiming they want to “educate” Urlacher and his people or Urlacher’s people demanding more money.
This may get ugly before it gets any better, unfortunately. While it would seem like cooler heads should be able to prevail in this situation, right now it appears that is just not going to be the case. Urlacher wants more money and the Bears would like very much to not have to pay Urlacher any more money. I can’t really blame the Bears in this situation. Urlacher is way out of line to be asking for more cash at his age with his injury history. How any player could feel they have a legitimate claim for more cash after neck surgery, I just have no idea.
