Benson Saga has Another Chapter

The Bears need someone else to make news, and preferably not Brian Urlacher at this point.  In an offseason that just hasn’t seemed to get on track properly (by no real fault of the organization), add yet another chapter.  The Cedric Benson issue is back in the news today as the police report detailing Benson’s incident has been released.  In it, the police recount their version of events yet again (and this time very officially).  Their version of events still differs greatly from Benson’s, who said he was completely compliant with the officers and not drunk at all.

This is a tough situation for all parties involved.  On one hand, the entire situation amounts to basically a couple of misdemeanors that will likely not carry jail time for Benson.  However, Benson has been in trouble before, and the Bears have shown little tolerance for repeat offenders as of late (see: Johnson, Tank).  The really troubling things about all this is how much Benson’s version of the incident differs from the police report.  It seems as though Benson is stuck between a rock and a hard place, and I’m not sure how he can win in this situation at this point.
