New Witness Comes Forward for Benson

I said yesterday that I was a bit tired of writing about the Cedric Benson boat scandal.  It seems that this time of year, right before voluntary team camps start happening all over the league, this is the time when players find trouble or trouble finds them.  This time of year isn’t entirely fun for me, so I try to avoid these unpleasant stories.  I said yesterday that I wasn’t going to touch the Benson story again until more information had come to light.  Well, more information has come to light in the form of another witness corroborating Benson’s side of the story.

This is newsworthy because the new witness is not a friend of Benson’s.  He was not on Benson’s boat, nor was he a member of Benson’s entourage.  He is, from what I can tell from the story, a total stranger to Benson.  He was simply a bystander to the ordeal, and he is taking Benson’s side of the story.  Additionally, Benson has hired a very high-profile defense attorney, which would lead one to believe that he plans to fight this case tooth and nail to clear his name.  This story is not likely to die anytime soon, but it does appear at the moment that Benson was not in the wrong in the situation.
