Bears Sign Pro Bowl Kicker

Robbie Gould will be the Bears’ kicker for some time to come.  The Pro Bowl kicker just signed a 5-year contract extension.  He still had a year left on his contract, but the Bears wanted to get him locked down for the long-term.  They made him the highest paid kicker in the NFL, handing him more than 15 million dollars in a contract that included a signing bonus of more than 4 million buckaroos just on the front end.  Gould seemed very excited (understandably so) in his comments to reporters after announcing the signing of the contract.

This signing, while very solid for the Bears, is sure to rankle some fans and at least one player on the team.  The Bears are involved in a bitter contract dispute with linebacker Brian Urlacher, who likely won’t be happy that they’ve opened up their checkbooks for a kicker.  The fans, meanwhile, will wonder why the Bears have no problem paying for a kicker, and yet they still haven’t found a franchise quarterback.  The Bears will simply continue to build this team in the most solid way they know how.  It should be noted that this team made it to the Super Bowl recently, and gets literally no love for having done so.
