Ricky Williams Almost on Benson’s Boat

In a strange turn of events that seems to do little more than cast the Benson incident in a somewhat funny light, Ricky Williams is now claiming he was invited along by Benson on that fateful day of boating.  I’m not quite sure why this is pertinent information, but ESPN.com seems to think this is big news.  Williams seems sure that had he been there, he could have at least done something to help diffuse the situation.  Williams goes on to say that he generally has quite the calming influence on the people around him.  One can only wonder what he means by that.

I don’t see what relevance this has to the case.  Ricky Williams also went to the University of Texas.  He and Benson share the bonds of Longhorn running backs, and so it makes complete sense that they would be good friends.  People will try to say this links Benson to possible drug use - due to Williams problems with substance abuse - but this is unfair.  Benson cannot be held responsible for the decisions a friend made years ago.  Two witnesses have now come forward corroborating Benson’s side of the story in this mess.  I hope the truth comes to light soon.
