Benson Reports to Voluntary Camp

A couple of days ago, it was reported that at the start of the Chicago Bears voluntary team workouts, neither Brian Urlacher nor Cedric Benson had reported to the camp.  While Urlacher remains a no-show, it is now being reported that Benson has arrived at the voluntary workout session.  This is a very good sign, as Benson will need to get his reps in if he wants to win the starting job.  This year there will be a bit of a preseason competition for the 1st string running back position, and Benson needs to show his dedication to the Bears if he wants to win the job back.

Benson showed up to camp saying all the right things.  No one seems bothered that he was a few days late.  Benson has begun to speak very favorably about his teammates.  People will remember that Benson famously said he didn’t feel a part of the team early in his career.  Apparently he now feels the Bears have his back.  Also, Benson’s attitude toward the competition for the starting job is exactly where it needs to be.  It seems as though Benson has really grown up.  I hope this new approach translates to on-field success.
