Benson Makes a List

Cedric Benson has endured many hardships during his career in the NFL.  After showing up in Chicago and expecting to the be the man, he had to play second-string and backup for awhile.  Then, when the team was finally given over to Benson, he fumbled.  The young running back didn’t put up the numbers Bears fans expected last season, and they let him have it.  Of course, no one needs to be reminded of Benson’s off-field issues this offseason.  All told, it just has not been Cedric Benson’s year.  Adding to this, Benson has made ESPN.com’s list of running backs to watch in 2008.

The prognosis from ESPN.com is not good.  They don’t expect Benson to come of age this season.  They are not impressed by his slimmed-down physique in mini-camp.   They actually believe he will be replaced by a rookie at some point this season.  I hope Benson reads this report, and it adds fuel to his fire.  I, for one, hope that Benson finds his way this year.  I know I’m in the minority believing he can do it, but I still hold out hope that Benson can figure out his issues.  He definitely has the talent.  He just needs to work on the maturity.
