Urlacher No-Shows OTAs

It’s back to business as usual for the Bears as it pertains to the Brian Urlacher situation.  While the standout linebacker was at camp for mandatory workouts, Urlacher is skipping the voluntary team activities.  This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following this situation with any regularity at all.  The contract dispute between Urlacher and the Bears, while not ugly, is still certainly ongoing.  Urlacher is contractually obligated to attend every mandatory team function.  However, due to the nature of his dispute, it is unlikely Urlacher will attend voluntary team events until he has a new contract.

It still remains to be seen how the Bears rectify this situation.  It seems that the Bears are making a habit of having at least on player on the team with a contract dispute every offseason.   However, the NFL is a business first and foremost, and sometimes these sorts of things are just a part of the game.  While everyone wishes their team could avoid this kind of thing, the reality of the matter is that this sort of thing happens all over the league, and the Bears are handling their contract issues with class and diplomacy, which is more than you can say for some teams.
