Benson in Hot Water

This one hurts a little bit.  I am generally the first person to defend an NFL player when they are accused of wrongdoing.  I believe firmly that in this country you are innocent until proven guilty.  I also believe that everyone deserves a second chance, and I am particularly forgiving when it comes to extremely young men who are given large sums of money.  It’s difficult to put yourself in the position, so I try to give these players the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their issues.  However, as it pertains to Cedric Benson, it appears that may no longer be possible.

While the Bears have yet to weigh in on what they will do about Benson’s latest incident, it would appear that they are running out of options.  Benson has been given second chance after second chance (to the point that I believe he’s on his eighth or ninth chance now), and the Bears cannot be much more forgiving or gracious to the troubled back than they have already been.  Benson is a very talented player who just seems to have a problem staying out of trouble.  I hope he can figure things out and succeed next season.
