Davis Dives In and Steps Up

The Bears have been dealt a tough hand so far in the offseason, but one player is resigned not to be a weak spot for Chicago: wide receiver Rashied Davis.  Davis reportedly began his strict training regimen a month earlier than he normally does because he knows the loss of receivers Bernard Berrian and Muhsin Muhammad means a lot more weight on his shoulders.  Berrian left in free agency to join another NFC north team, the Vikings, and Muhammad was released.  Both offensive coordinator Ron Turner and wide receiver coach Darryl Drake have noticed a difference in Davis’s play this offseason.  Drake was quoted by Larry Meyer as saying, “He’s quicker, he’s faster, he’s stronger. He puts more fear in them—you go ask those guys on defense who puts fear inside them.”

Davis has been a go-to guy in key plays for the Bears and helped them get to the 2006 championships game with 303 yards that season.  Last year he had 165 yards but hopes his extra work will mean great results on the field.  Davis embodies the work ethic that has given the Bears so much staying power and a strong fan base.
