ESPN analyzed the love of the running game by the NFC North and talked about the upcoming season for the Chicago Bears’ division. While most other teams in the NFL emphasize passing as their main scoring tool, the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings have long since relied on their run game and with Brett Favre retired (maybe), the Green Bay Packers may soon join them.
Football is unique in the NFC North, which makes it so amazing to be a fan. Unlike pass for show teams who can’t play in weather below 45 degrees, the teams in the NFC North play classic, tough football in any conditions. If you have been a Bears fan for any length of time, you have surely found yourself delightfully frozen at Soldier field at least once watching some team from the South try to function against the tough Bears defense in sub-zero temperatures. Even if you walked away with frostbite, it was a thing of beauty.
Maybe the rules do favor the passing game. Maybe leaning heavily on your quarterback and receivers is more popular than ever. While everyone in the NFC North, including the Bears, would love an incredible talented QB, there is something to be said for a team who can make it happen with running backs who tirelessly fight for every yard.
