The Chicago Bears’ offensive line is facing some changes this season with some veterans leaving and new blood coming in. The two positions looking to change the most are left guard and left tackle. Starting left guard Ruben Brown has left the Bears, leaving Terrence Metcalf as the likely fill in for the starting position. Offensive line coach Harry Hiestand tells Larry Mayer that Metcalf has been doing well so far saying, “He had a real good offseason. He came in very determined. He saw the opportunity with Ruben [Brown] moving on and has worked very hard mentally and physically to be the best he can be in there, so we’ve been encouraged by that.”
Chris Williams was chosen in the first round by the Bears and is fighting for the starting position at left tackle. Although he seems like a logical choice, it is a tough position for a rookie to come into. Hiestand has some ideas in mind to find out in training camp if the rookie has what it takes and said, “The biggest thing is he’s got to give us the best chance to win. He’s got to show that he can block on the edge and show that he can run-block and pass-block at the highest level, and that challenge will be presented to him.”
