The Jones talk is back. While the Chicago Bears stated recently that they were not looking to sign a veteran quarterback to back up the team of rookie Matt Forte and Adrian Peterson, free agent Kevin Jones is set for a visit to Halas Hall, complete with a physical. His agent, Tony Fleming, reported to the Tampa Tribune that Jones would either be a Bear or a Steeler by the end of Tuesday.
Jones is coming off of a ligament tear in December that led to him being released by the Detroit Lions. As a rookie in 2004, he has some 1,133 yards. He has been somewhat injury-prone since then, but is willing to sign only a one-year deal to prove he can stay healthy and be a big contributor.
While Forte could be a key running back for the Bears, it would not hurt the offense at all to add someone like Jones. The offense is getting bad reviews so far in many preseason predictions, and Jones could change some of that. The Bears have a reputation as a running team and what better way to fortify that reputation than by adding another talented running back. I guess we will know by the end of the day what the Bears are thinking. To get your Chicago Bears tickets, visit StubHub.com.
