With first round draft pick Chris Williams out for a good part of the season, the Chicago Bears bolstered their offensive line by bringing back offensive tackle Fred Miller and signing him to a one-year deal. The Bears had previously waived Miller, who had started 46 out of 48 games in the last three years for Chicago. Miller left on good terms, making the return possible. Miller said, “They knew where my heart stood and I knew where theirs was and that’s the one thing that kind of brought me back is the mutual respect that we have for one another.”
Fred Miller is 35 years old and looking toward retirement in the near future. Last season, he was having pain in his ankle leading to him performing at about half his capacity. He had surgery, making him close to the same tackle that the Bears once relied on. Offensive coordinator Ron Turner was happy to have Miller back as well since Miller already knows how the offense operates. Kirk Barton was waived in order to make room for Miller. Barton was chosen in the seventh round of this year’s draft from Ohio State. Get your Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.com.
