There seems to be a lot riding on Sunday’s match up between the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions. For the Chicago Bears, they just turned around their problem of losing in the final minutes with a 24-20 win over the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday and need to keep the momentum in their favor. The Lions are coming off of a bye week and have a 0-3 record so far this season. On top of not wanting to go 0-4, the Lions also are trying to prove they are better off since the firing of president Matt Millen. After the firing, the Lions also set their sights on the Bears, declaring their goal was to beat the fellow Midwesterners.
Bears coach Lovie Smith also is longtime friends with Rod Marinelli, as they both were defensive assistance at Tampa Bay in 1996. Smith is anticipating a good game and said, “What do I expect from a Rod Marinelli-coached football team? Is that what you’re asking? Well, I expect them to come out and play hard every down, and that’s about all you can ask from your ballclub. I know what their record says right now. But we’re talking about a team that swept us last year, so it should be a heckuva football game.”
