Harris Back and Sorry

While suspending a player is never a positive step for a team, it shows something about a player when they react in the way defensive tackle Tommie Harris did. Harris has been contrite and apologetic about the suspension given to him by the Bears for one game.  The reason for the suspension is not completely clear, but many are assuming it has something to do with Harris being late for treatment on his knee and getting into a verbal conflict with coach Lovie Smith.

Harris said about his suspension, “I’m relying on Jesus now, and I think that’s something I took out of my life. I was going back and forth with my relationship with Christ. I know that’s No. 1 in my life. If that is not right with me, then nothing’s going to be right — on the field, off the field, regardless.”

Compare his response to that of New York Giants’ wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who was suspended for one game for missing a team meeting.  He told reporters, “I haven’t lost any sleep. I am in great spirits. I enjoyed my week off. My team went out and played great yesterday without me. It was good to see the guys go out there and play well.”
