Metcalf Out, Williams Possible Replacement

After the disappointing last second loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, the last thing the Chicago Bears needed was another blow.  But that is exactly what they got when their reserve guard Terrence Metcalf was suspended by the NFL for four games for violating the anabolic steroids and related substances policy of the league. Metcalf will be out until Monday, November 17, meaning he will miss games against the Vikings, Lions, Titans and Packers.  Coach Lovie Smith took the news in stride saying, “It’s something that happens. I look at those things like I do injuries. We’re not going to have a player for a certain amount of time and we’ll go from there. When you make a mistake like that, there are consequences that go with it.”

The one bright spot in the whole ordeal was Smith’s indication that the Bears might already have a replacement for Metcalf in the form of this year’s first-round draft pick, Chris Williams.  Williams has been out the entire season so far after having surgery on his back.  Lately, he has been practicing in full pads and could be ready for his NFL debut soon.
