Everyone seems to be waiting to find out what is going on with Kyle Orton’s ankle, but there is a bigger problem immediately facing the Bears: the Tennessee Titans. The Titans are the only undefeated team left in the NFL, and the Bears have been less than consistent so far this season. The Bears may have also had a good game against the Detroit Lions, but facing the only team left without a win will be far different than the Titans.
So far, coach Lovie Smith is staying positive, saying, “I think if you look at most defenses in the league you’re going to see inconsistent play. We’ve done a lot of good things defensively. What I’m going to choose to remember [from Sunday] is how the defense finished. There was nothing inconsistent about the way we finished that second half. There was consistent good football, and I’m hoping that’s what will carry through the second half of the season.”
Playing without Orton, which seems to be inevitable, will not make a win over the dominant Titans any easier. The game will inevitably give rookie running back Matt Forte a chance to shine as well, which is what many are hoping for. Grossman will also be trying to prove his worth, but any careless pass could easily be picked off by the Titans, a feat that Grossman already has the propensity towards.
