Rookie running back Matt Forte has been the picture of consistency for the Chicago Bears this seasons, and he tallied another 69 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday. Those yards bring his total offensive yards this season to 1,476, which lifts him over Gale Sayers’ rookie total of 1,374, a previous Bears rookie record. Forte was characteristically humble about the accomplishment, saying, “I never looked at anybody’s stats. I just go out and play every weekend. I really worry about the win column.”
Forte’s list of accomplishments this season doesn’t end there. He joins an elite group of only six other players to have over 1,000 rushing yards and over 50 receptions during their rookie seasons. The last player to do so was LaDainian Tomlinson. So far this season, Forte has 1,081 yards rushing and six touchdowns. He also has 395 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Forte is winning accolades and loads of respect from his coaches and teammates for his ability to perform every week and doing so with class. Forte will try to add to his stats as the Bears take on the New Orleans Saints at home on Thursday. See them play live with Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.com.
