Hanie Fights For More Playing Time

With all of the talk surrounding the quarterback this season and offseason, fans are quite familiar with the names Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman. But what about Caleb Hanie? Hanie was this year’s third-string quarterback, who spend his time trying to learn more about the program and hopefully fight for more playing time in the seasons to come.

Hanie said, “It was a great learning experience for me. I didn’t expect anything too high; I just hoped for the best and everything worked out for me. Obviously I would’ve liked to get in and play because you never want to sit on the bench all year. But it was probably a good thing for me to sit and watch Kyle do his thing and see how he prepares for games and just learn and soak everything in and get a year under my belt.”

His rookie season did not equal much time on the field, but Hanie is still fighting to become the backup quarterback and eventually the starter.  If Hanie can step up, he may provide the depth in the position that general manager Jerry Angelo has already commented he is looking for.
