Ruben Brown Retires

Former Chicago Bears guard Ruben Brown recently announced that he will be retiring and not returning for the 2009 season. The announcement isn’t much of a shock considering that Brown didn’t play the entire 2008 season. He said, “I came to the conclusion it’s time to hang it up. I’m going to officially retire this week. I’m going to submit my paperwork to the NFL. … I am terminating my active playing days. It’s a wrap. There’s no more football for me. They’re always inquiring if I’m done. Yeah, that’s it. There’s no more. It was an awesome ride.”

Brown spent his first nine years with the Buffalo Bills, where he routinely played in every game of the season.  He became a Bear in 2004. Although a top contributor during his four seasons with the Bears, he missed games during the 2004 and 2005 seasons with injuries. Brown has been named to the Pro Bowl nine times, he last being in 2006, when he helped the Bears reach the Super Bowl. Brown will be turning 37 later in February.
